A round plate, which is almost entirely decorated with rich Baroque embossing, is integrated into a hexagonal metal plate. The rim is formed by a wreath of flowers and leaves which are embossed in a highly raised fashion and finely chased. The singular flower, framed by a string of pearls, in the well is flanked by six shell motifs. The floral wreath is also framed by two strings of pearls and is, thus, visually particularly highlighted.
The purpose of this splendid plate is unclear. It could equally be a decorative element for a “Schaubuffet” [show buffet] as well as a baptismal basin.
The work by Hans Michael Grill, which is marked by its high quality, illustrates the high standards of Viennese silver in the 17th c.
