Screw pines have fragrant flowers with a strong fruity smell.  They are often used as perfume and to flavour food.  The plant is also used in Ayurvedic medicine as a stimulant and to treat headaches and rheumatism.  Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world's oldest medicinal systems and has been practiced in india for 3,000 years.
