This seated Buddha image is characterized by a rounded, swelling form of head and body. A further major characteristic of this work is the conscientiously carved drapery that adheres to the body in delicate fold lines. The gently smiling face, the body proportions that maintain their integrity when viewed from any angle, and other such features all contribute to this extremely well executed image. The front of the plinth is decorated with relief carvings, with a central censer flanked on either side by worshipping donors and lions. This sculpture is fully representative of Northern Wei dynasty Buddhist sculpture styles.
