The Frick Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh, United States

The butler at Clayton was in charge of creating a seating chart for each dinner party. According to etiquette, the guest of honor was given a prominent position, and married couples were not seated together in order to encourage new conversation. This seating chart could be lengthened and shortened according to the number of guests, just like the table in the Clayton dining room. The name cards that appear in the chart refer to actual guests of the Frick family; many of them are mentioned in Helen Clay Frick's memoirs.
