Secretary of War approves of design for Tomb of America's Unknown Soldier. The Secretary of War Dwight F. Davis (left) and Maj. Gen. B.F. Cheatham, Quartermaster General of the United States Army, inspecting the accepted design and model for the completion of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, which was submitted by Thomas Hudson Jones, sculptor, of New York City; and Lorimer Rich, architect, also of New York City. This design was selected after a competition in which seventy-three designs were submitted
