Fung Ming-chip2005

Hong Kong Museum of Art

Hong Kong Museum of Art
Hong Kong , Hong Kong

This work shows a modernistic approach towards combining calligraphy and abstract painting. In the lower part of the work, a horizon is created with spontaneous brushstrokes. The Chinese characters on the upper part composition look like floating or moving in the air as Fung tried to create the overlapping strokes with different ink tones and absorbency of rice paper. Although the media are traditional Chinese ink, brush and rice paper, Fung's work gives a new perspective on viewing works of Chinese painting and calligraphy.
