This self-portrait by the video installation artist Kim Seung Young, who has worked with a wide variety of themes such as immortality, the cycle of existence, and communication, stems from his experience of putting a photo of Joseph Beuys on the wall every morning. In the video, Kim's photograph is placed on the wall and whenever it comes off, he repeatedly puts it back on the wall and then disappears. This seems to symbolize the execution an action, its subsequent failure, and the repetitive cycle of a new beginning, much likeour journey in life. Through this cycle and contemplative atmosphere, KIM demonstrates his own unique sensibility and philosophy.-Choi, Jung Hee (Curator of Seoul Museum of Art)
