Manel Margalef (1963) Trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Barcelona, he is a lecturer at the Tarragona School of Art. His early career was as a painter, where he expressed a preoccupation with geometrical forms, as demonstrated in his works of the late 80s and early 90s, in which a constructive character predominates. Later moving towards the object world, he commences a new line of research based on a landscape familiar to him, which he uses as a reference: the Ebro Delta. This work by Manel Margalef reveals his desire to reclaim objects related to the farming industry, in this case rice farming, decontextualising them from their original use to turn them into objects of art, as an exaltation of popular and ancestral culture. 28th Julio Antonio Sculpture Award, 1996 Art Biennial
