This is a square decimeter made of various pieces representing units of measurement. One square decimeter is equivalent to approximately 15 square inches. A separable square decimeter (also known as a cubic decimeter or dissectable cubic decimeter) was a teaching resource used to show students how different measurements and volumes were related to one another, as well as their equivalent values. They usually consisted of a cardboard or brass box containing wooden pieces that represented units of volume and measurement.
