Ariane is the main European project for the design and building of large launchers. Now in its fifth version, Ariane-5 is composed of a central vector with one or two liquid propellant stages, and two lateral auxiliary solid propellant rockets, called boosters. Once their function is over, the first stage or the other upper ones are released using small solid propellant rocket engines like the ones used on Ariane-4.
