Fung Ho-yin studied photography and advertising in the London College of Printing from 1987 to 1989. He has received professional training in photography and different areas of design in Hong Kong and the UK. When he returned to Hong Kong, he is mainly engaged in photography and production of gum print, and currently works as an assistant professor in the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Fung has participated in various exhibitions including Heartstrings-Prints Exhibition (2009); The Second Bangkok Triennale, International Print and Drawing Exhibition (2010); and the Third China Contemporary Prints Art Exhibition and Conference (2010). He is also named the Finalist of the 2nd Bangkok Triennale, the International Print and Drawing Exhibition, Bangkok (2009-10) and the 75th Annual International Competition- Printmaking (2001). Fung’s works have been collected by museums in Hong Kong and throughout China. According to Fung, photography is a kind of printing with optical and chemical processing. The process of turning a photographic negative into a gum print strikes much resemblance to printmaking. Photographic techniques were used to be adopted in traditional printmaking but it only played an auxiliary role. Although the production process of gum print is complicated, Fung finds much pleasure in it.
