A typical drystone fank in Tòranais. Sheep from Bernera were rounded up and taken there for dipping, marking and shearing.
The photograph is by Donald MacAulay (1930-2017), a Gaelic poet and scholar, latterly Professor of Celtic at the University of Glasgow, who was from the island of Bernera.
