Beginning with the early musical short features he created, such as "Silly Symphonies," Walt Disney began a tradition of publishing printed music for all the songs his musical films made popular. His firm eventually formed its own publishing house and then even its own record company to continue this practice. Disney's sheet music was typically simple to learn and play, which made it more appealing to his generally young audiences.

In 1942 Disney produced "The Three Caballeros," as part of a good-will effort towards the firm's South American neighbors. Besides starring Donald Duck and two other feathered characters, the film featured singers Aurora Miranda, Carmen Molina, and Dora Luz in a bold mix of animation and live-action. Though critics at the time were dubious of the technique, the film has held up well in the timeline of Disney films, even if it has been edited several times for various formats.
