The USA entered into the world war in 1917. Measures such as the distribution of ‘catchy’ songs were meant to propagate victory over Germany as well as rally the support of the Allied Forces. The cover of the two-page “Good-bye Broadway, hello France: Big song hit of ‘Passing show of 1917’ at N. Y. Winter Garden” sheet shows an American officer and a French officer shaking hands across the Atlantic ocean. The back advertises further songs thematizing the involvement of the USA in World War I.
