This handscroll depicts the whole process of Shogun’s deer-hunting in Koganei-hara field with illustrations and captions. It was held by the 11th Shogun Tokugawa Ienari in 1795.
The scroll is gorgeously bound, which is suitable piece recording the Shogun’s event.
Ienari’s deer-hunting was the largest scale in the Edo period (1600-1868). Therefore, it is thought to have been one of the popular themes for paintings among the feudal lord families.
