In colonial times, it was customary among the noblesse and haute bourgeoisie to surround themselves with sensational pieces of furniture and furnishings, reflecting a certain social status as well as a peculiar aesthetic taste. These objects, made from parts of animals killed during big game hunts, were strikingly exemplifying the domination on the animal, perhaps even more than typical trophies. Count de Reali as well commissioned the manufacturing of some unique items of furniture, including this round side table made of elephant leather, a giraffe bone and four hartebeest horns.
