Provenance: The Scuola dei Calegheri was born in Venice, ruled by specific regulations (Capitulary) and legitimated by its own seal (signet); this confraternity is documented since 1268. Members of this noble "Art" used to manufacture very refined footwear (shoes) for Venetian patricians, bringing great prestige to the Republic of S. Marco with their work. After Napoleon put an end to the glorious Venetrian Republic (1797), some of these craftsmen were forced to move along the Brenta river because of the great drop in work, stimulating the groth of this area.
