This is a silver nose ring representing deified ancestor within a tiered burial platform. The personage wears a headdress shaped like a crescent moon and two plumes, ear ornaments and kilt. It is flanked by two birds, two fish and two deer. On his head lies a two-headed snake that forms a bow. The iconography of nose and ear ornaments that accompany the deceased members of the Chimu elite is frequently associated with the figure of the deceased ruler in central stepped structures. These structures could be representations of funerary platforms in which rulers were buried. Some motifs related to water such as waves, fish, seabirds and mullu (Spondylus sp.) are also highlighted. Silver, associated with the world of the night, the moon and the stars, is also linked to the world of the dead. In the Andean region, the world of the dead is also the sea and the depths of the earth. In other words, life begins and ends in the water. Esta es una nariguera de plata que representa ancestro divinizado dentro de plataforma funeraria. El personaje viste un tocado en forma de media luna y dos penachos, orejeras y faldellín. Está flanqueado por dos aves, dos peces y dos venados. Sobre su cabeza se extiende una serpiente de dos cabezas que forma una especie de arco. La iconografía de narigueras y orejeras que acompañan a los difuntos miembros de la élite Chimú está asociada con la figura del difunto gobernante en el centro de estructuras escalonadas. Estas estructuras podrían ser las representaciones de las plataformas funerarias en las cuales eran enterrados los gobernantes. También destacan motivos relacionados al agua como peces, aves marinas y el mullu (Spondylus sp.). La plata, asociada con el mundo de la noche, la luna y las estrellas, está también vinculada al mundo de los muertos. En el área andina, el mundo de los muertos corresponde tanto al mar como a las profundidades oscuras de la tierra húmeda. En otras palabras, la vida se inicia y termina en el agua. Estas complejas asociaciones simbólicas, hacen de la plata el material perfecto para la confección de adornos corporales con clara función ceremonial y funeraria. (UH)
