In the early 1980s there were attacks not only from the Palestinians but also from the neo-Nazi scene – on Chief Rabbi Akiba Eisenberg and Simon Wiesenthal, among others. Branches of the Schöps clothing chain were also targeted. No one was injured in these neo-Nazi attacks, but apart from the material damage, they created a threatening atmosphere. Simon Wiesenthal felt obliged to carry a weapon in self-defense.
