In this portrait by Hogarth, Sir Charles Kemeys-Tynte (1710-85), a close friend and neighbour of Coplestone Warre Bampfylde, is seen gesturing to a plan and a gentleman’s compendium of drawing instruments on his table, while beyond the window is a landscaped garden. Bampfylde freely advised Tynte on the design of his Great Park at Halswell near Goathurst, Somerset.
