In 1929, Frida Kahlo made Sketch for Self-Portrait with Airplane, on the back of the canvas of Little Virginia. She surely never imagined thet many years later, in the year 2000, the painting based on this sketch woul break three major records: the highest price at auction for a Latin American work; being a painting by the most highly sought-after woman painter in the world; and the most expensive work by any Mexicanartist up to that time.
