Slave' Clock

One of a series of ‘slave’ clocks that were installed throughout the Bank of England building. They were controlled by a ‘master’ clock in the Engine Room. This example has the letters ‘BE’ for Bank of England on the hour hand.

The ‘master’ clock keeps time and synchronises the ‘slave’ clocks via an electronic signal. They were particularly popular in the 1950s and were used in public institutions such as schools, offices and factories.
