Slovenian Banner

Migration Museum

Migration Museum
Adelaide, Australia

This banner is part of the museum's Community Banners project, 'Memories and Dreams'. It is symbolic of Slovenian immigrants' experiences in South Australia.
The couple in national costume dance among the flowers of Slovenia. Behind them is a silhouette of the Triglav Mountains. Dreams of a new start in Australia are symbolised by the sun and hopes for prosperity are represented by the wheat. This banner effectively links the optimism of life in a new country with the love for the Domovina or homeland, and the desire to hold on to Slovenian culture and traditions.
