Small flower study

Small Floral painting by Heidi Herzog (1905-1967) created in 1954. The work itself was from the personal collection of Gerrit Bakker, the director of the Constantia Gallery in Johannesburg and the personal agent of the artist. As Herzog destroyed most of her works dated between 1951 and 1961 this is a rare example of her earlier work in South Africa. Short Biography: Heidi Hertzog was born in 1905 in Switzerland and began her painting career in 1930 at the Torri del Greco in Italy. She immigrated to South Africa in 1951 but was unsuccessful breaking into the art scene and subsequently destroyed most of her early works. From 1961 to her death in 1967 she had huge success on the Johannesburg Art Scene.
