Although dominated by the cultivation of wine, the Alto Douro Wine Region is quite diverse, visible in the various types of landscaping forms adapted to the geomorphological conditions of the land and to historical developments. From the old narrow, irregularly shaped ledges to larger terraces, ledges and vertical rows of vineyard, the construction of this landscape dates back in the ages. It reveals the combination of centuries-old techniques with new solutions brought by modern technology.
