Today we are the only ones left. But for most of our history it was not so. The complex interweaving of the fates of different humans who lived together in time and space has generated the many branches of a bush-shaped family tree. Since the origin of our group, about 5.4 million years ago, to this day, all branches of this bush have dried up except for one. Should the last branch, our own, disappear, the whole lineage that has led to us would remain just a memory.
