Taranto, Italy

Rattle in the shape of a cradle with a child, found inside an infant pit grave excavated in the ground and covered by a terracotta tile. The insertion of small stones or terracotta spheres inside these objects, which were products made in series using a mould, made it possible to produce a sound that distracted the small children for whom these toys were intended. Similar objects are frequently found in funerary and sanctuary contexts dedicated to divinities protecting motherhood and early childhood.
