“The idea of the project was to bring the shadows cast through the windows into the ground floor corridor. I took photos of the thrown shadows and then filmed them under water, which conferred the same kind of washy feel as the live shadows, which are never totally still, what with the breeze stirring the plants and the light varying as time goes by. Each projector reproduced the shadows of a different window—three windows, three projectors. I kept everything exactly as it was, projecting the images directly onto the flaked, stained walls. The corridor is dark enough to allow for stark contrasts. Mounds of rock salt were placed on the floor directly beneath each window, delimiting the space.” Marcia Xavier uses photography to create works that process her exploration of landscapes, the horizon and architecture. She also works with objects and x-ray viewers to produce other solutions and speculations.
