spindle whorl

Spindle whorl. Cone shaped with two bands of incised geometric designs. Base circumference edge is chipped and partly damaged. Straight-sided perforation through the centre. Some of the surface has a gloss, similar to burnishing, particularly the flat base. Light grey-brown. Low-fired clay (or possibly slightly burnt sandstone). Possibly Aztec, used in the spinning of maguey fibre.
