Demons hide in the remainders; some ask me not to leave them there. There is an old divination technique that consists of guessing the fate of wishes through the ritual of lighting candles and watching the remanent wax, their shapes and the potential futures that they suggest. In the Nuestra Señora de Balvanera church, there is a very popular sanctuary devoted to San Expedito. So many believers go there, that we can find two enormous metal bins full of the candle leftovers used by the churchgoers. Since April 2018, I have been working on the remainders left there. I systematically go to the sanctuary, mix with the believers, collect the leftovers that I find more attractive and submit them to technical processes related to sculpture. I am interested in finding more than creating, to subtract instead of adding, to reproduce instead of producing. The objects that I make emerge from that process.
