This is a stand for an assembled 1:100 scale flying Saturn 1B rocket model built by Centuri Engineering for retail sale. The model is made of balsa, paper, and plastic with a parachute which deploys at the end of flight for recovery and reuse. Saturn 1Bs were developed by NASA for the Apollo program. They launched four uncrewed flights in the Apollo program, the Apollo 7 mission in October 1968, the three crews for the Skylab space station in 1973, and the U.S. astronauts in the Apollo-Soyuz Test Program in 1975.Centuri Engineering donated this model to the Museum in 1970.
