Obverse: Nude boy rider crowning his horse, which stands facing left with right foreleg raised; to right, cornucopiae. Beneath horse, inscribed but heavily obscured, [-Α] ΓΕΑϹ [-AGEAS]. Reverse: Taras astride dolphin to left, trident in left hand, kantharos in right. Below dolphin, inscribed: TΑΡΑΣ [TARAS]; inscribed vertically below trident, ΓΟΛΥ [GOLU]. Taras is both the name of the city that minted this coin and of a legendary figure who was saved from drowning by a dolphin sent by his father, the god Poseidon.
