The equestrian statue of Charles I was cast in 1633 by the French sculptor Hubert Le Suer. It stands on a carved Portland stone pedestal created by Joshua Marshall. The statue was commissioned in 1630 by Charles I's Lord Treasurer Sir Richard Weston for his house in Roehampton but was erected at Charing Cross in 1674-5, following the Restoration of the Stuart monarchy.
