Almost contemporary with the mummy-shaped sarcophagi of Egypt were the stone box tombs on the island of Heligoland. Here the ruling classes were interred beneath huge burial mounds. Their graves were a means of demonstrating their wealth, which was derived from trade in the copper deposits found on the island. The grave exhibited here contained the burial of a man together with a bronze dagger and decorative pin.
