Ichthyosaurs have the largest eyes of any animal in the fossil record, which they used to collect light in the darkness of the deep ocean while hunting. This Stenopterygius was preserved with the remnants of its last meal in its rib cage. These remnants give us clues to their diet: mainly fish and squid, much like modern dolphins. The streamlined body shows that Stenopterygius was a fast swimmer, and therefore a very skilled hunter.
