A sand-tower castle of Babel swallowed by the tide is the inspiring subject of "Steps" by Sara Rossi (1970). For this video work, the artist states that she focused on a place where time was conceived as a dilated space without measure, in an attempt to distance the frenetic rhythm of the metropolis and to eliminate the anxiety it produces. The network of references also involves the "high" sphere of art history, where the tower of Babel follows the one depicted in the homonymous, well-known painting by Bruegel the Elder. Time and duration are understood as "the passing and changing" in which "a continuous process of transformation takes place, so as to make the sense of creation and continuous disintegration as in nature". A mysterious world, unstable, crossed by an invisible energy, immersed in a poetic dimension that includes ourselves and our mirages.
