The still-life, including asparagus, artichokes, courgettes, plums and cherries, is an oil on cardboard made by Giovanni Bartolena in the second half of the 1930s, when the artist settled permanently in Livorno, starting an intense creative season. The artwork is based on a wise compositional balance. The vegetables' composition is characterized by a calm light and a skilful chromatic drafting and emerges from the background painted in shades of light and dark gray.
