Artist Porfiry Krylov was a member of the famous creative trio The Kukryniksy together with Mikhail Kupriyanov and Nikolay Sokolov. This pseudonym was derived from the surnames of these artists. Alongside their collaborative work, each artist was also a painter in his own right.
Notably, Krylov was the only member of the trio who graduated from the department of painting, rather than graphics. The artist’s postgraduate studies were under Pyotr Petrovich Konchalovsky.
Starting from the second half of the 1940s Porfiry Krylov actively started on a series of still lives, many of which can now be found in museum collections. Among them is this work, “Still Life with Lilacs in a Vase”. In this painting Krylov reveals a different side to his work. Here he is an intimate painter with a refined artistic manner, enchanted by the color and volume of natural forms, who can delicately convey the feeling of a light and airy environment.
