Around the 1950s, Kahlo was constantly painting still lifes, the third artistic genre in importance in her painting, after self-portraits and portraits. From 1951 to 1954, her image virtually disappears from her canvases. Sexuality becomes more evident, less veiled, in the ripe fruit cut open, to reveal their succulent flesh, in a direct invitation to pleasure, as we can appreciate in this work.
