The variety of shapes and colors is notable. Van Huysum used different types of flowers in differing stages of development, from bud to fully bloomed. The smallest of details are painted painstakingly accurate, such as the dewdrops on the tulip and the ant on the rose. Van Huysum sold his still lifes for astronomical prices to many of the European royal courts.

On loan from the City of Amsterdam, 1892.
