Stirrup-spout jar, made in a mould, in the shape of a custard-apple squash. The potter probably made the clay mould using a real squash, and added the mould for the handle / spout. A clay mould could be used many times before it broke or became too worn to use further. From the Moché culture of Peru, made between 200 BC and AD 600.
Purchased, 1944
