Table Clock

The low prismatic casing is done in a combination of silvered and gilded copper. On the upper horizontal plate is a tinned dial circle with black engraved Roman numbers for the hours, while the half hours are marked with dots. It has just one hand. The movement is fixed onto square brass plates. Every full hour a little hammer hits the bell put into the bottom of the clock, which opens up to enable access to the winding axes on the plate. This is a Renaissance type of table clock, which is particular because of the horizontally placed face. From them, personal watches developed, through reduction of the dimensions. The form of the feet, the leafy decoration on the plate and the form of the side glazed openings are elements that suggest a dating to the middle of the 17th century. The watchmaker Georg Christoph Lutzenberger (Lucenberger) was born before 1600, and from 1620 he had his own workshop in Augsburg. He died in 1660.
