Carved wooden stool stamped "Biltmore N.C." This stool was made by Biltmore Industries, an apprenticeship program started by George W. and Edith Vanderbilt in 1901. Students in the program were taught traditional handcrafts such as woodworking and weaving. They often made reproductions of the furnishings found in Biltmore, the Vanderbilt's grandiose North Carolina mansion.
