Axlon, owned and operated by Nolan Bushnell, released Petsters in 1986. Designed by Harrison/Erickson, Inc., Petsters included Pupster, Penguin, Petster Puppy, Spider, Scotty, and Fluffy, among others. Designed as an electronic toy, Pupster would respond to clap commands, play games, and bark. The October 1986 issue of The Atlantic reported on "a vast number of noisy toys," including Petster, Teddy Ruxpin, Gabby Bear, Hellow Hippo, Sting Mosquito, and Blabber Bear.
