The gilded burgonet along with the saddle was a Christmas gift to Elector Christian I from his wife, Sophie, in 1589. The skull of the impressive helmet is completely decorated with violent battles among ancient riders, much like the saddle steels. The equestrian scenes on the cheek plates and the eye and neck guards as well as the ridge are correspondingly smaller. [...] The considerable number of saddles, weapons, and armor made in Augsburg acquired under Christian I testifies to the great appreciation for the skill and refinement of southern German masters at the court of Saxony.
