This bronze stylus was found during excavations from 1954 to 1955 in the Dominican monastery in Tallinn.
The relief on the stylus depicts a resting dragon (one end comes out of the dragons mouth and the tail end, which has broken off, was used for writing). Dragon was a symbol of the eternal fight between good and evil, it has laso been depicted on the portals of teh monastic church, the seal of the town and the carved stone details on the building the Great Guild in Tallinn. Styli were also made of bone.
