Su't or embroidered cloth (possibly for ceremonial use)

c.1940

Museo Ixchel del Traje Indígena

Museo Ixchel del Traje Indígena
Guatemala, Guatemala

This cloth, possibly of ceremonial use, is made of commercial fabric. It impresses by the simplicity of its composition, achieved thanks to many small stars. A description of pieces of this kind can be read in Olga Geng's book "Técnicas de Bordados en los Trajes Indígenas de Guatemala". This is an iconic heritage piece of great historical value as its manufacture has been discontinued for a long time in the area in question, where it was only made upon special order for interested buyers.
