Suffragists kept up the fight in the face of failure. California suffragists worked tirelessly for their cause, not letting disappointing defeats derail them. The first statewide vote failed to pass in 1896, and after a progressive administration swept to power in 1910, suffragists had only eight months to mobilize a massive campaign.
