Suffragette badge of office worn by an official at Women's Sunday, 21st June 1908. The badge comprises a cream watered silk panel embroidered in green silk thread with the title 'N.W.S.P.U. Banner Captain' and below a gilt tassel. Organised by the Women's Social and Political Union, Woman's Sunday involved 7 processions through London to a rally in Hyde Park. Over 700 banners were carried by the marching Suffragettes and each procession was allocated an official 'Banner Captain' to ensure the banners were carried correctly and in an orderly fashion to attract the maximum visual impact.
