This is an iron sword guard in an irregularly round shape. A hole for inserting Kozuka (small knife) can be seen on the left side. The snow crystal pattern is represented with the techniques of open work and fine line engraving. According to the existing document, it is attributed to Shoami, which was a school of metal works and sword guard crafts established in the late Muromachi period (16th century).
